Ankara at the heart of the alliance

Turkey hosted the 36th NATO summit in Ankara on July 7-8, 2026, marking its first time since 2004. The meeting produced commitments of 70 billion euros in aid for Ukraine, over $50 billion in new procurement, and a $40 billion anti-drone program. Erdoğan held bilateral talks with Trump on lifting CAATSA sanctions and Turkey’s possible return to the F-35 program, while Ankara signed a defense pact with London.
