Blue Homeland and Maritime Jurisdiction Areas Law

Although the Blue Homeland concept emerged in 2006, the origins of Turkey’s struggle over maritime jurisdiction areas date back to the continental shelf crises in the Aegean during the 1970s. Throughout Republican history, a land-centered security approach kept the seas of secondary importance, while the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and Greece’s 12-mile threat further deepened the problems.
